I have worked as a Hypnobirthing Practitioner since 2014, supporting parents as they prepare to birth their baby. In 2018 I decided to further the support I offer and train and register as a Doula. I am registered with Doula UK as a Recognised Birth Doula and a Mentored Postnatal Doula as I work through their recognition process to also become a Recognised Postnatal Doula.
What does a Birth Doula really do?
As your Birth Doula I will support you and your partner through preparing for your birthing day, I will attend and support you both through labour and birth and I will also visit you at home during the first week after your baby is born to see how you have all settled in.
Many women (and their partners) worry that a Doula will take over the role of their partner in labour and their partner will be left out. This really couldn’t be further from the truth. My role as your Birth Doula is to support you both. To look after the birth space so that your partner really can focus on looking after you. I can suggest ways your partner may support you and I can suggest things that may assist you as you labour and birth.
In our antenatal sessions I will find out about you and your birth wishes. We will discuss your birth preferences and I will help you prepare for your birth. I will also be available to you by email, text and phone for any questions you may have in the lead up to the birth.
Once you are in labour, you can call for me to come as soon as you would like me to be there. Even if you are planning a hospital birth it is beneficial for you to call for me to come to you while you are labouring at home. Whether you birth your baby at home or in hospital, I will remain with you until your baby has been born and until you are settled together.
During the first week following the birth I will arrange to visit you at home. This will be an opportunity for you to talk about the labour and birth, ask questions and for to chat through anything else you would like to.
I live close to the borders of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire and so I am able to support births in most parts of these counties. Do please get in touch so we may discuss your needs fully.
What does a Postnatal Doula do?
A Postnatal Doula offers support to families following the birth of a new baby. I support both first time parents and parents who already have a child (or children).
Families engage my services for help for a variety of reasons. Many of us don’t feel ready when our partners have to return to work 2 weeks after we’ve had our baby or we live far from our own families who traditionally would have supported us during those first weeks with a new baby.
As your Postnatal Doula, I will support you however you need in those first weeks. I may make tea and have a chat with you around how you are getting on, watch your baby while you have a shower, tidy up a little, prepare a light meal, load the dishwasher, do the school run. We will chat through your expectations of me in advance so you’re aware of the types of work I am willing undertake.
The areas I cover for postnatal work include High Wycombe, Princes Risborough, Thame, Oxford, Henley, Marlow and Beaconsfield. I may consider travelling further, so do please get in touch to discuss you needs.
Do please contact me regarding your Birth / Postnatal needs and I will outline my charges to you.
